Creating Files
File Size
All documents need 1/8” (.125) built into the overall size; bleeds, margins, and white margins need to extend into this dimension to ensure proper finishing. Do not exceed 1/4” (.25) on pre-press files. (i.e. an 8.5 x 11 flyer needs to be submitted as 8.75 x 11.25). Multiple page and front/back documents must be in one file.
Safety Zone
For trimming purposes please design your item with a 1/4“ (.25) margin inside the piece – this is known as the safe zone. This will ensure that text and images are not cut.
Image Resolution
Resolution should be 300dpi to ensure quality; that includes logos, photos, and captured text that has been saved as an image. The GetMediaNow! upload process will warn you when a file is low resolution. Higher than 300dpi is unnecessary. (Most digital cameras are set for 72dpi to 150dpi resolution; this works well for printing off of home computers, web/email use, inserting into documents and copying; however it does not work for digital presses.)
Supported Files
The GetMediaNow! upload feature will convert your file to PDF. To guarantee your document maintains the correct formatting, we suggest all files are uploaded as PDF. If you do not have a PDF writer we recommend CutePDF [www.cutepdf.com] an excellent PDF creator.
Microsoft Vista applications are not supported.
- .PDF – Portable Document Format
- .PS – PostScript
- .EPS – Encapsulated PostScript
- .AI - Adobe Illustrator
- .PSD – Adobe Photoshop
- .INDD – Adobe InDesign
- .DOC – Word Document
- .JPEG – Joint Photographic Experts Group File Format
- .TIFF – Tagged Image
- .GIF – Graphics Interchange Format
- .DOC - Microsoft Word
- .PPT / .PPS - Microsoft PowerPoint

- .PUB - Microsoft Publisher is not supported. Publisher files must be converted to PDF prior to upload.
CMYK versus Spot Colors
We request jobs be saved as CMYK. All spot colors will be converted to CMYK. GetMediaNow! reads Pantone color channels in the job for color match. We cannot guarantee accurate printing utilizing RGB colors. Microsoft files default (Word, Publisher, etc.) to RGB change settings to CMYK.
Fonts
Always embed fonts in the application and in the PDF. In the Adobe PDF Settings dialog box, the font needs to appear in the AlwaysEmbed list in the Fonts tab and EmbedAllFonts is set to True. Use True Type fonts, not all fonts convert well or at all for commercial printing. Adobe Acrobat and GetMediaNow! look at the font policy and respect the licensing restrictions of its creator. This means that there are some TrueType fonts that will not embed.
- Avoid the following fonts as they rarely embed:
- Courier, Courier-Bold, Courier-Oblique, Courier-BoldOblique
- Times-Roman, Times-Bold, Times-Italic, Times-BoldItalic
- Helvetica, Helvetica-Bold, Helvetica-Oblique, Helvetica-BoldOblique
- Symbol and ZapfDingbats
